P1027 Aircraft Maintenance Hangar and Airfield Improv
The P-1027 project constructs a modified Type II Maintenance Hangar consisting of approximately 78,000 gross square feet, designed to meet the specific mission requirements of the CMV-22B airframe. Hangar spaces for a new CMV-22B are generally limited to the LP Area of Naval Station Norfolk (NSN). In this area, five hangars exist, all facing south in front of a large concrete area reserved for aircraft aprons. A maximum gap of approximately 390 ft. separates LP48 east wall and LP33 west wall where the new hangar will be located.
Civil work includes the demolition of the existing concrete pavement within the footprint of the hangar site, removing abandoned utilities, constructing the foundation for the hangar, relocating telecom ductbank and other utilities, and stormwater management. The airfield paving for this project consists of the reconstruction of the aircraft parking apron and widening of the shoulders for taxiways A and C (North) to support of the VRM-40 squadron.
